If it plays in Peoria...

Get Low, the new Depression-era comedy starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Bill Murray, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been making its way to select cities throughout the month of August (unfortunately, not including Bloomington). It opens in Peoria, IL tomorrow, and I felt I had to give a shout-out to my home town.

Shot in 24 days for $7 million, the film was directed by first-time feature filmmaker Aaron Schneider, native of Dunlap, IL (part of the Peoria metropolitan area). Schneider won an Oscar for his 2003 short Two Soldiers starring Ron Perlman, an adaptation of the Faulkner story, and I had the pleasure of interviewing both Schneider and Perlman at a Peoria screening of the film when I was home from college one summer, interning at the now defunct Peoria Times-Observer. Fun fact: Schneider and I had the same English teacher in junior high school.
